Hector Cecchini was born in San Francisco. His family was from Montecatini in Northern Italy. For many years he owned a grocery store in the Noe Valley district of San Francisco. During that time he began his hobby of landscape photography.

Hector and his wife Elena travelled across the U.S. in search of dramatic landscapes to photograph. He was fascinated with the desert, cloud formations, and Yosemite. After he retired he built a darkroom in his basement where he developed all his own film and did his own printing.

He was a state and national prize winner. Many have described his work as similar in style to Ansel Adams. His wife Elena stated, "He's up on his white cloud, smiling from ear to ear, knowing that people are still enjoying his work."
